Visiting the Flagstaff Station - Groups

[Groups] [Astronomers] [Official] [Walk-Ins] [Open Houses]

Educational groups are welcome to visit the Flagstaff Station, as long as there aren't too many of them and as long as the groups are well-supervised and small enough to be accomodated. A group size of 10-20 people is just about right. Visits by larger groups can be arranged, but we'll need plenty of advance warning - at least a couple of weeks. Group organizers should call the USNO Flagstaff Station at (928) 779 5132.

It is strongly recommended that groups of school children or young scouts time their visit to the Flagstaff Station to coincide with studying astronomy in class or working on an astronomy project or merit badge. Otherwise, it is unlikely the children will derive much from their visit.

Commercially-operated tours cannot be accomodated at the Flagstaff Station. We simply don't have the staff or the facilities for such groups. However, the Lowell Observatory has an excellent visitors' program, including guided tours, an exhibit hall, and gift shop. Nighttime viewing can also be arranged there. The Lowell Observatory Visitors' Center can be reached at (928) 774 3358.
